The Efficient Garden

Lyndon B. Johnson tried to win a war on poverty. Has he won that war? I don't know, but we can help in our own way.

In my view, we have several tools already available to improve upon the situation. Our neighborhood can provide a great setup for growing lots of vegetables and even chicken eggs. I suspect that grains like wheat, corn, and rice are best left to the professional farmers due to their space utilization and yield. This article is an ongoing discussion of how best to take advantage of small spaces and at least supplement the food for your family with minimal effort. It also doubles as a way to relax and remove stress. Relaxing and removing stress just might help you think of some honest creative ways to make the most of your situation and help others do the same!

For background, we have a normal 3 bedroom house with a garage and a backyard. We divided up the backyard into zones that sort of feed each other. I suppose for those in apartments, it is a different situation and I have yet to think of a solution for that. Give me some mail if you have ideas. A google spreadsheet of our progress is as below and linked here.

Feel free to copy and make your own. The spreadsheet is embedded below, but some browsers seem to have a hard time displaying it.
