I recently went to adopt a pet. They asked me a few questions and paired me with organizations willing to help pay its medical expenses. I'm sure something similar could work in this area. It may not be full proof, but better than nothing. The state can remain agnostic about helper organizations. It would just publish a list of folks that were willing to help, starting with every pro-life church in its state. Perhaps men would be more cautious if they had to fund any potential offspring from their sexual escapades. I believe this is already the case though.

Background

Consider the following: Imagine a hunter in the woods who is wanting to shoot at Bambi's

mother or father that day. He hears a rustling in the woods, but is UNCERTAIN of whether it is human or not. Does he shoot anyway?

Let's at least be honest about abortion, first. It is terminating another life. For whatever reason, the new entity, with its own unique genetic code, is often viewed as nothing more than tissue. It's a question of ... mindset, and for some I don't think it changes until they see the heartbeat on the sonogram. Even if you have arguments that it is not a life, and many do, the facts are that you simply don't know. That uncertainty means you don't shoot. I've spoken with many about this topic, and they truly believe it is nothing more than an organ that is being discarded. Depending on how they are approached, they may, of course, become defensive and more intrenched in their position, as people are apt to do.

Let's consider the argument of survivability/viability as mentioned in Roe v. Wade. My obstetrician friend in Atlanta informs me that babies now routinely survive even being born at a mere 4.5 months. What distinguishes a child born at that age vs. one still resident in the womb in terms of development?

Root Causes?

Mother Nature

The natural laws of this world include a 'design feature' which would make something fun, sex, result in the scary (for some) experience of giving birth and raising another person. Imagine if exercising another biological function such as eating too much resulted in a consequence such as having to raise a rather ornery goat the rest of your life. A man can repopulate the earth with one release of his seed, yet a woman must be choosey with whom she mates because the results are life altering.

My Body my Choice

Yes, your body, agree -- however, where I would part ways is that there is another one's body involved in the discussion. The entity is not simply an old carrot that one can cast into the trash. Please think of its choices - its options since you have seen fit to invite the possibility of making your body its home for a few months.

Sex Sacred?

Unfortunately, much of our culture doesn't really consider intimacy between a man and woman as a sacred act, and thus may not treat it with the right level of diligence. That is their choice to do so; however, it also impacts others, and before casting too much judgment, it happens to the best of us considering our biological urges. I have a daughter who is 11 as of this writing. At the same time, I became aware of a young mother who was 11 years old. My daughter can barely keep her room clean, so I couldn't imagine her rearing a baby! Yet there it is. My wife worked with this soul and made her a check list and showed her what to do, but still - what a mind job!

All of this said principles are great, but they are often met with other conflicting principles or exceptions to the rule. Since people want to make laws on this topic, rather than educate or provide other options, what follows are some thoughts on the law making aspects.

Legislative

Legislative proposals may draw upon the principle of maximum life, which governs this area. Let me give an example that will surely put some in a twist, credit to my wife for coming up with this political koane: Would you rather have a baby aborted or adopted by gay parents?

Planned Untimely Death

If the baby (unique genetic sequence with beating heart in first trimester) is going to be killed anyway, why not make adoption as simple as signing an affidavit that one will raise the child has one's own - should be no harder than adopting a puppy, again, if the entity was slated for destruction anyway. Let the child get the money, not the lawyers. This is similar to terminal patients will to have experimental drugs used on them. If they aren't going to make it anyway, shouldn't they have the option?

Unfunded Mandates?

I recently went to adopt a pet. They asked me a few questions and paired me with organizations willing to help pay its medical expenses. I'm sure something similar could work in this area. It may not be full proof, but better than nothing. The state can remain agnostic about helper organizations. It would just publish a list of folks that were willing to help, starting with every pro-life church in its state. Perhaps men would be more cautious if they had to fund any potential offspring from their sexual escapades. I believe this is already the case though.

Convenience

If done for convenience, then that's a problem, but what is the source? Perhaps abortion is simply a symptom of the real problem. For example, IMO, any such legislation should be paired with a loosening or optimization of adoption restrictions. It has been said, that if every church in Texas had a family that adopted 1 kid, the 40,000 kids in the system would no longer be orphans. I'm working on it, not there yet. Yet it takes thousands of dollars and 7-9 months.

What follows is an example meant to drive up the cost of abortion, apparently: http://www.houstonpress.com/news/aborted-fetuses-must-now-be-buried-cremated-in-texas-8986047

I'm not sure whether it was paired with an effort to drive down the cost of adoption, by removing restrictions.

Exceptions

Then there are the exceptions to the rule --got to have an exceptions process, sorry. For example, Ectopic pregnancy is some scary stuff. In such situations, following the principle of maximum life, if it one life or another or both may be lost, I don't believe it would be proper to compel anyone on which path to take and I'm not competent enough to say what a mother's options might be. There are, of course, other weird situations. The law of unintended consequences is ever present.

Ectopic pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy is a scary thing. Ask many men what this is and they will have no idea. Ask a woman, and often, in my experience, she knows. Basically, the developing baby binds to the mother's internals in a weird way - where it makes it difficult if not impossible to segregate the tissue of the baby from the mother because they start growing together somehow. Often these will end in miscarriage, but not always.

Co-joined Twins
